ZENCO Case | Chongqing Marriott Hotel

2026-05-05

Walking to the end of Yanyu Road and rounding the roaring buzz of Haitangxi Light Rail Station, a glass tower stands quietly in place. Not towering in height, it makes no ostentatious display, much like a blade sheathed in its scabbard. In the year of its completion, new landmarks along Nanbin Road were just emerging from scaffolding, and people across the river looked up, remarking that here lay the perfect vantage point to gaze upon Chongqing. As a new benchmark hotel launched by Marriott International in the Asia-Pacific region, its debut was destined to be extraordinary. The interior design team translated the poetic landscape outside the window into everyday furnishings, striking a perfect balance of warmth and coolness in spatial texture; wall textures echo the ripples of the river, while the flowing curves of sofas mirror the undulating contours of mountain ranges. All redundant embellishments are set aside, leaving only lines, light and shadow to breathe freely, where modern sophistication blends seamlessly with the ethereal charm of mountains and rivers. In this process, ZENCO CASA turns every conceptual design on the blueprint into tangible texture and precise proportion, merging design aesthetics perfectly with the overall space. As dusk falls and the entire building glows with soft warm light, it is no mere hotel, but a gentle comma laid down by the great river right here.

The sign of Haitangxi Light Rail Station grows slightly warm in the river breeze. Those waiting for the train look up to see a glass tower rising toweringly from the southern bank of the Yangtze River, with clouds gently pinned upon its exterior glass walls. Arrival unfolds at a deliberately unhurried pace: stepping through the ground-floor arrival lobby, subtle aromatic scents drift ahead, ushering you toward the upper floors. The high-speed elevator ascends with a soft hum, as the horizon beyond the windows gradually lowers, until the luminous skyline of the entire Yuzhong Peninsula spreads out beneath your feet. The sky lobby features no excessive adornments, with expansive glass curtain walls embracing the city skyline in full view. Set on a high vantage point, the front desk pairs with sleek, well-spaced lounge sofas, guiding the gaze outward toward the rolling river. Every route is thoughtfully designed to melt away travel weariness unconsciously, leaving only a peaceful and tranquil heart.

At the end of Yanyu Road, past the roaring echoes of Haitangxi Light Rail Station, a glass tower stands quietly. Standing at 190 meters in height, it never seeks ostentation, just like a blade sheathed in calm. Upon its completion, this new landmark of Nanbin Road emerged from scaffolding, drawing gazes from across the river as the finest window overlooking Chongqing. As the first newly built hotel adopting brand-new standards of Marriott International in the Asia-Pacific region, it was destined to be extraordinary from the very beginning. The interior is masterfully designed by Cheng Chung Design (CCD) from Hong Kong. Having borne the design imprints of Le Méridien and Westin in past projects, this creation embodies even more exquisite craftsmanship. ZENCO CASA translates the landscape poetry envisioned by CCD into tangible daily furnishings, striking a perfect balance of warmth and coolness in spatial texture. The subtle textures on the walls echo rippling river waves, while the soft curves of sofas resonate with the rolling mountain contours. Excessive ornamentation is set aside, leaving only flowing lines and breathing light and shadow, where modern sophistication blends seamlessly with the ethereal charm of mountains and rivers. As dusk envelops the city, the entire building glows with gentle warmth. More than merely a hotel, it is a tranquil comma gently placed by the great river.

The dining spaces unfold a poetic journey of diverse flavors that interpret the charm of the mountain city. Warm light filters through the grilles in the Chinese restaurant, simmering the exquisite craftsmanship of Cantonese cuisine and the fresh delicacies of the Yangtze River into a taste both restrained and distinctive. In the open kitchen of the all-day dining restaurant, spicy Chongqing noodles simmering in red oil embrace the bold heat of the city, composing a symphony of chili aroma amid rich daily hustle. Hidden high above the ground, the cloudtop bar Kui integrates the imagery of ancient mythical beasts with panoramic river views; seated with a glass in hand, one may savour the shifting glow of dawn and dusk within every sip. The ice parlour and tea corridor serve as gentle anchors, weaving the laid-back leisure of Hong Kong style and the lingering tea fragrance of Sichuan and Chongqing into daily life. From mellow freshness to blazing spiciness, from subtle tea notes to rich wine aromas, every dining space takes flavour as its brush, depicting the varied tastes of this city and its unique blend of mortal warmth, mountains and rivers.

Beyond business receptions and feasts, the hotel reserves tranquil nooks for travellers to slow their breath. The indoor constant-temperature swimming pool is nestled high in the clouds, its water reflecting the shimmering lights of the mountain city, with sparkling ripples blending seamlessly with the outdoor scenery, blurring the line between swimming in the water and immersing oneself in the twilight of Yuzhou. Professional fitness equipment pairs with expansive floor-to-ceiling windows in the gym, where morning breezes and distant mountain views drift in together, allowing the body to stretch and relax in gentle rhythm. In the serene lounge area, warm soft light wraps around textured wood finishes, offering spaces for board games, casual chats, or simply sitting quietly to watch the flow of light and shadow. From the soothing rippling water and dynamic fitness facilities to the quiet minimalist corners, every space provides a soothing retreat for weary bodies and minds after long journeys, slowing down the pace of life and restoring a light and effortless rhythm.

As morning light pierces the mist over the river and night gathers the last wisp of afterglow, every pause and departure blends into this timeless scroll and becomes an integral part of it. The subtle harmony between furnishings and people lies in the reassuring steadiness of every seat, the perfect caress of river breeze when the window is opened, and the understated yet thoughtful comfort woven into every quiet moment of daily life.

The millennium-old poetry of "Haitang Misty Rain" meets Marriott’s timeless hospitality along the banks of Nanbin. The verses written by Qing-dynasty poet Wang Erjian still linger in the wind, while the ancient stream lined with crabapple trees has long transformed into the twinkling lights that illuminate Nanbin Road. The river flows endlessly through the ages, unfolding the same flowing scroll before the windows of this high-rise hotel. From the artistic conception crafted by CCD to the exquisite craftsmanship realized by ZENCO CASA, every detail jointly composes a contemporary chapter for this mountain city.
